• leather bicycle bag for BFF Part Two
For my friend that spends as much time on her velo as possible I decided to make a saddle bag for those ultimate life essentials – phone, wallet, keys, snazzaroo and a hip flask. Sometimes you want to just chuck on some clothes, strap on your bicycle bag and pedal into the distant horizon (or to the pub / to see a neighbour / to the supermarket). To make this by hand would have given me so many callouses that I might have had to stay indoors nursing my elephant hands for a month, so PermaBoyf gave me a hand by running some parts through the sewing machine (which temporarily broke, because it apparently isn’t a fan of upholstery leather… whatevs, sewing machine). The stud detailing is pretty restrained in an attempt to look classic (rather than ridiculously razzy, which was my initial plan). The two leather buckle straps attach the bag to either the saddle back or the handlebars, and the zip ensures that all possessions are snuggly and safely kept inside.
This is another thing that I’d like to attempt again, possibly making it a detachable part of a larger bag.
gile:
Here’s a great documentary, first broadcast on Channel 4 in the early 90’s. It’s about improvisation in music and it’s written and narrated by Derek Bailey.

Image: back cover of The Unholy Bow, by Terence Hannum, artist and member of the highly and rightfully acclaimed band Locrian. After countless ‘zines and other editions, this is Terence’s first perfect bound book, published by 5nakefork. It’s a series of visual and verbal meditations on headbanging.
“Slowly the crowd gathers, heads hung as the musicians pick up their instruments. Upon the first note of feedback the heads start moving. Both performer and witness begin a ritualized dance in a flurry of hair, a profane genuflection. An unholy bow.”
